The Disney “Graduation/Retirement” Celebration of a Lifetime
So for those of you who have been following my journey to plan my husband’s retirement celebration at Disney, already understand the whole graduation/retirement reference. However, for those of you just jumping in now, I will elaborate. My husband was honored to be the administrator of one single school practically all of his adult life… for 35 years. Retiring after such a monumental journey, led to lots of stories, well wishes, and of course celebrations. Our little granddaughters (5 and 3 at the time ) always referred to Gampy’s retirement as his graduation! We thought it was so cute (what grandparent wouldn’t) that when we started planning our Disney Celebration, it became Gampy’s Graduation Celebration! It really stuck!
Our entire family gathered at Disney World the last of September. As I mentioned before in my blog, it was truly a thousand piece puzzle to put it all together…grandchildren in school….jobs to work around, and of course, schedules to synchronize. But, it happened, and our Disney Celebration was absolutely INCREDIABLE!
(continued )
I left off explaining about the awesome Disney Dining Plan that we purchased for our Celebration. When we purchased our packages we were offered several options, we chose the Dining plan that gave you: One sit down meal, two fast serve meals, and one snack each and every day of your stay. We were like whoa, Did we come to Disney to eat or what? It was incrediable! We made reservations at several of the more popular hot spots well ahead, however, places like Cinderella’s Castle Dining, and Epcot’s French Restaurant, were almost full and we had to take times that were not what we actually wanted. The really REALLY fine dining places such as Cinderella’s Castle take TWO sit down meal tickets, but hey it is still a bargain extraordinaire! The Disney Dining Plan is a must for families!
We headed toward the Parks about 8:00-9:00 each day. We started our journey at The Magic Kingdom….where else? We were all so excited each day that we walked around in a kind-of stupor, but we managed to cover just about everything. We were very disappointed that It’s a Small World was closed because that just happens to be the sweetest place on earth! It held lots and lots of memories for all of our adult children as well as the “Graduate” and his wife. We pouted a little bit, but got over it very quickly when we road Space Mountain. Yes, it is still as fast as ever, and yes it does make anyone over 60’s back hurt.
The beautiful little granddaughters were treated to a makeover at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique from their Uncle. It doesn’t get much better than to take a peak at all the little Princesses and see the transformation taking place. Words do not describe the mayhem that ensues, but the trained staff know just exactly how to handle temperamental two, three and four year olds. Be sure to include a date for the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for your little girls on your next Disney trip.
I will continue this little journal at a later date, however, I would like to include some of our pictures so that you can get a feel for this Disney Lovin’ Family.
